1Question

Tell me about a time you provided person-centred care to someone with complex needs

I supported a 28-year-old man with autism and learning disabilities who struggled with daily routines. I observed his preferences over 3 weeks and discovered he responded well to visual schedules. I created personalised picture cards for his morning routine, which reduced his anxiety from daily meltdowns to just 2 incidents per week. This approach helped him gain confidence and eventually led to him independently managing 4 out of 6 morning tasks, significantly improving his quality of life and self-esteem.
2Question

Describe a situation where you had to build trust with a vulnerable person

A new service user with mental health needs was initially very withdrawn and refused personal care support. I spent 2 weeks simply sitting with her during meal times without pressuring interaction. I learned she loved gardening, so I brought seed catalogues to share. After 3 weeks, she began asking questions about plants. This patient approach led to her accepting personal care support within 6 weeks, and she eventually participated in community gardening activities, transforming her social engagement completely.
