1Question

Tell me about a time you had to lead a care team during a challenging situation

During a night shift, we had a resident with advanced dementia who became increasingly agitated and was at risk of falling. I quickly assessed the situation and coordinated with my team of 4 care assistants to implement a calming approach. I assigned one carer to stay with the resident while I reviewed their care plan and medication schedule. I discovered they had missed their evening medication due to a documentation error. After consulting with the on-call GP and administering the prescribed medication, I implemented a buddy system for medication rounds to prevent future errors. The resident settled within 30 minutes, and we prevented what could have been a serious incident. This experience reinforced the importance of thorough assessment and clear team communication during challenging situations.
2Question

Describe how you've built trust with residents and their families

When Mrs Johnson was admitted to our care home, her daughter was extremely anxious about the transition and visited daily, often questioning our care decisions. I made it a priority to involve both Mrs Johnson and her daughter in developing the care plan. I scheduled weekly meetings to discuss her mother's progress and always ensured I was available when the daughter visited. I explained each aspect of care in detail and encouraged questions. When Mrs Johnson developed a chest infection, I immediately contacted the daughter and kept her updated throughout the treatment process. Over 6 weeks, I noticed the daughter's visits became more relaxed, and she began praising our care approach. She later told me that my transparency and consistent communication had given her complete confidence in our team's ability to care for her mother.
