Dear Hiring Manager,

David Lloyd Clubs' reputation as one of the leading racquet operators in the industry is precisely why the Racquets Manager role at Hatfield caught my attention. With an LTA Level 3 qualification and hands-on experience delivering Tennis, Padel and Pickleball coaching programmes, I am confident I can drive the exceptional member experience your clubs are known for.

My background in racquets programme management includes leading a team of 5 coaches across a busy leisure facility, designing seasonal coaching pathways for over 80 junior and adult members, and growing participation in Padel by 30% over 12 months. I understand the operational demands of managing multi-discipline racquet sports alongside the commercial need to retain and grow club membership.

STAR answer examples

Model answers using the Situation-Task-Action-Result framework. Adapt to your own experience.

1Question

Tell me about a time you led a team of coaches with differing skill levels and how you managed their development.

Situation: I inherited a coaching team of 4 at a mid-sized leisure club, ranging from a newly qualified LTA Level 2 coach to a senior Level 4 performance coach. Task: I needed to unify the team's delivery standards while supporting each coach's individual development. Action: I introduced monthly one-to-ones, paired the junior coach with the senior for shadowing sessions, and created a shared lesson-plan library to align quality. I also arranged an external Padel CPD workshop for the whole team. Result: Within 6 months, member lesson rebooking rates rose from 68% to 84%, and the junior coach achieved their Level 3 qualification ahead of schedule.
2Question

Give an example of when you introduced a new racquet sport or programme to a club and how you drove member engagement.

Situation: Pickleball was growing nationally but our club had no provision, and 15 members had requested it via the feedback survey. Task: I was asked to pilot a Pickleball offering within 8 weeks using two existing tennis courts. Action: I completed a Pickleball instructor course, sourced 20 sets of equipment within a £600 budget, and ran two free taster sessions promoted via the club app and notice boards. I then launched a 6-week beginner course priced at £45 per person. Result: Both taster sessions sold out within 48 hours, the beginner course enrolled 24 members, and we generated £1,080 in new programme revenue in the first month.
