1Question

Tell me about a time when you had to escalate a project issue to senior management

During a critical HVAC installation at a data centre facility, I discovered that the electrical supply specifications didn't match the air handler requirements, which could have delayed commissioning by 3 weeks. I immediately documented the technical discrepancy with photos and electrical diagrams, then escalated to the Project Manager and client within 2 hours. I prepared a detailed report outlining 3 potential solutions with cost and timeline implications. Working with the engineering team, we implemented a modified electrical configuration that resolved the issue within 4 days, keeping the project on schedule and saving £18,000 in potential delay costs.
2Question

Describe a situation where you had to communicate complex technical requirements to different stakeholder levels

While coordinating a modular data centre installation, I needed to explain cooling capacity requirements to both the client's facilities team and senior executives. For the technical team, I used detailed P&ID diagrams and performance specifications showing the 2.5MW cooling capacity and redundancy levels. For the executives, I created a simplified presentation focusing on business impact: how the cooling system would support 850 server racks and ensure 99.9% uptime. I also prepared a one-page summary highlighting key metrics and costs. This approach ensured all stakeholders understood their relevant aspects, leading to unanimous approval and a smooth 6-week installation process.
