What you will do
We are seeking a Senior Electrical Commissioning Engineer to lead the commissioning strategy and execution governance of critical electrical infrastructure for advanced, liquid-cooled data centres.
This role is responsible for defining how power systems are safely energised, tested, integrated, and demonstrated—working closely with mechanical systems that support high-density IT loads.
The role operates within a central commissioning team, providing strategy, standards, and technical assurance across regional deployments.
How you will do it
Commissioning Strategy & Governance
- Develop and own the electrical commissioning strategy for the data centre product
- Define: Energisation sequences, Safety and control philosophies, Failure-mode and recovery testing scenarios
- Act as escalation point for all electrical commissioning risks and issues
Systems Scope
- MV / LV power distribution
- UPS systems (static and/or rotary)
- Standby generation and fuel systems
- ATS / STS / switchgear
- Busways and rack power distribution
- Earthing and bonding systems
- EPMS / SCADA integration
Procedure & Test Development
- Author and approve:
- Electrical commissioning scripts
- Black-building and power restoration tests
- Load bank and live IT load testing procedures
- Define acceptance criteria aligned to uptime, redundancy, and safety requirements
Site & Regional Oversight
- Govern commissioning execution carried out by regional electrical teams
- Review method statements, switching plans, and test documentation
- Witness critical energisation, power-failure testing, and integrated tests
- Ensure consistent commissioning quality across regions and projects
Integrated Systems Testing (IST)
- Lead electrical contribution to IST events
- Coordinate with mechanical commissioning on:
- Power failure impacts to CDUs and cooling systems
- Control system fail-safe behaviours
- Support client-witnessed testing and operational demonstrations
Safety & Compliance
- Ensure safe systems of work for HV/LV activities
- Enforce lock-out/tag-out, switching authority, and permit procedures
- Promote a strong safety culture within commissioning environments
What we look for
- 10+ years’ experience commissioning critical power systems for data centres
- Proven experience delivering Tier III / Tier IV or hyperscale facilities
- Strong understanding of:
- Electrical failure modes and redundancy testing
- Load progression and ramp-up strategies
- SCADA / EPMS monitoring and alarming
- Relevant electrical engineering qualification
- HV authorisation or equivalent experience highly desirable
- Decisive, safety-led mindset
- Strong stakeholder management skills
- Excellent technical writing and procedural clarity
- Comfortable challenging project pressure when systems are not ready
- Willingness to travel for FATs, IST, and critical onsite activities
