1Question

Tell me about a time you successfully re-engaged a disengaged pupil

I worked with Jake, a Year 5 pupil who had refused to attend school for 8 weeks following family difficulties. His confidence was extremely low and he showed no interest in academic work. I started by building rapport through his interest in football, incorporating maths through league tables and literacy through match reports. Within 3 weeks, Jake was completing 45-minute sessions enthusiastically. After 12 weeks of intervention, he successfully returned to school with 98% attendance and achieved his target grades in both English and Maths assessments.
2Question

Describe a situation where you had to be creative in your teaching approach

I was tutoring Emma, a Year 4 pupil with severe anxiety around traditional learning methods. Standard worksheets caused immediate shutdown behaviours. I redesigned her entire curriculum around storytelling and role-play, teaching fractions through baking recipes and history through character diaries. This approach reduced her anxiety episodes from daily occurrences to zero over 6 weeks. Her parents reported she began asking for extra homework for the first time ever, and her confidence improved dramatically across all subjects.
