Application advice

5 AI-generated recommendations to maximise your chances.

1

⭐ Lead your CV with a Personal Statement that explicitly names 'electrical switchgear assembly' and 'control plate assembly', as these are the core tasks listed at the top of the role description.

2

📊 Quantify your manufacturing output: e.g. 'Assembled 30+ control panels per week, maintaining a defect rate below 1% across a 6-month production run'.

3

🔧 List every hand tool and power tool you are competent with by name (e.g. crimping tools, cable strippers, drills, torque wrenches) — the advert explicitly requires this experience.

4

🎯 Include a dedicated 'Health & Safety' line in your skills section referencing any relevant training (e.g. manual handling, COSHH awareness, risk assessment), as the advert stresses rigorous H&S adherence.

5

🏭 Mention any experience with CNC machines, label printing, or goods-in inspection processes, even briefly — these are specific tasks called out in the advert and will help your CV pass ATS screening.

STAR answer examples

1Question

Tell me about a time you identified a quality issue on the production line — what did you do and what was the outcome?

Situation: During a morning shift assembling cable harnesses, I noticed that a batch of 50 crimp terminals had not been fully seated, which would have caused intermittent faults in the finished panels. Task: My responsibility was to flag the issue before any panels left the assembly area. Action: I immediately halted work on that batch, informed my team leader, and quarantined the affected components. I then re-inspected the previous day's output — finding 8 further affected units — and raised a non-conformance report with the supplier reference. Result: All 58 units were reworked before dispatch, preventing a potential customer return. The supplier issued a corrective action within two weeks, and the defect did not recur.
2Question

Describe a situation where you had to meet a tight production deadline. How did you prioritise your tasks?

Situation: Three weeks into a new contract, our team of 6 was asked to complete a batch of 30 switchgear panels in 4 days instead of the usual 7, due to a client site installation being brought forward. Task: As the most experienced assembler on the cable prep station, I needed to ensure my stage did not become a bottleneck. Action: I mapped out the daily output required — 8 panels per day — and split cable prep into two parallel workstreams, training a colleague on the crimping process in half a day. I also flagged to the supervisor that we needed DIN rail stock replenished by day two to avoid a stoppage. Result: We completed all 30 panels by the end of day four with zero quality rejections, and the client installation proceeded on schedule.
