1Question

Tell me about a time you exceeded sales targets - what strategies did you use?

In my previous role, I was tasked with increasing quarterly sales by 12% in a challenging market. I analysed customer buying patterns and identified that 65% of clients valued personalised service over price. I implemented a follow-up system, calling each prospect within 24 hours and scheduling face-to-face meetings. I also created tailored presentations highlighting specific benefits for each client's business needs. This approach resulted in exceeding the target by 18%, generating £34k additional revenue. The key was building genuine relationships rather than just pushing products, which led to 40% of clients becoming repeat customers.
2Question

Describe a situation where you had to build trust with a difficult customer

I encountered a trade customer who had received poor service previously and was extremely sceptical about our capabilities. They questioned every recommendation and demanded extensive proof of our expertise. I acknowledged their concerns and arranged a site visit to their previous project to understand their specific requirements. I provided detailed technical specifications, arranged references from similar clients, and offered a phased approach starting with a smaller £2,800 order. By delivering exactly as promised and maintaining weekly progress updates, I gradually built their confidence. This customer eventually became one of our largest accounts, placing orders worth £18k monthly.
