1Question

Tell me about a time you exceeded a sales target. What strategies did you use?

In my previous role, I was tasked with achieving £180k in quarterly sales but was tracking at only £145k with 3 weeks remaining. I analysed my customer database and identified 12 warm prospects who had shown interest but hadn't committed. I scheduled follow-up calls with each, offering limited-time incentives and demonstrating additional value through product bundling. I also reached out to 8 existing customers for referrals, which generated 3 new leads. Through this focused approach, I closed £52k in additional sales in those final weeks, finishing at £197k - 109% of target. The key was systematic follow-up and leveraging existing relationships for new opportunities.
2Question

Describe a situation where you had to build trust with a difficult customer

I had a trade customer who was sceptical about switching suppliers after a poor experience with delivery delays from their previous provider. They were hesitant to commit to a £15k kitchen order despite competitive pricing. I arranged to meet them at their current project site to understand their specific concerns. I provided detailed delivery schedules, introduced them to our depot manager, and offered a trial with a smaller £3k bathroom order first. I followed up weekly during the trial period and ensured flawless execution. After seeing our reliability firsthand, they not only placed the original kitchen order but became a regular customer, placing £45k in orders over the following 6 months.
