1Question

Tell me about a time when you exceeded your sales targets. What strategies did you use?

Last year, I was tasked with achieving £120,000 in kitchen sales but ended up delivering £142,000, representing 118% of target. The situation arose when our depot faced increased competition from online retailers. I took action by implementing a three-pronged approach: firstly, I increased my home visit frequency from 3 to 5 per week to provide more personalised service; secondly, I developed stronger relationships with 12 key trade customers by offering design workshops; and thirdly, I focused on higher-margin products through consultative selling. The result was not only exceeding my target by £22,000 but also achieving the highest customer satisfaction score in our region at 94%.
2Question

Describe a situation where you had to build trust with a difficult customer. How did you approach it?

I encountered a contractor who had received poor service from our depot previously and was considering switching suppliers for a £15,000 kitchen project. The situation was challenging because he was sceptical about our design capabilities and delivery timelines. I took action by arranging three separate meetings: first, I visited his current project site to understand his specific requirements; second, I provided detailed CAD drawings within 24 hours showing three alternative layouts; and third, I connected him directly with our depot manager to discuss delivery guarantees. My approach focused on transparency, quick response times, and going beyond standard service. The result was securing not only that £15,000 contract but also establishing a ongoing relationship that generated £38,000 in additional business over 8 months.
