Application advice

5 AI-generated recommendations to maximise your chances.

1

⭐ Lead your CV with a Personal Statement that explicitly names 'EYFS Teacher' and 'QTS' — the advert lists these as headline requirements and ATS filters will scan for both terms.

2

📊 Quantify your classroom impact: e.g. 'Planned and delivered EYFS lessons for a class of 28 pupils, achieving 90% of children meeting expected development milestones at end-of-year assessment.'

3

🎯 Dedicate a bullet point to SEN experience — the advert is for a specialist primary school in Harrow and explicitly mentions a range of learning needs, so detail any specific SEN conditions you have taught (e.g. ASD, SEMH, speech and language needs).

4

🔒 Include a line on safeguarding training and your DBS status prominently in your CV header or profile — the advert stresses safeguarding standards and Reeson Education holds this as a core value.

5

🤝 Highlight collaborative working with teaching assistants and external professionals, as the role specifically requires coordinating with wider school staff and parents — name any multi-agency or SENCO liaison experience directly.

STAR answer examples

Model answers using the Situation-Task-Action-Result framework. Adapt to your own experience.

1Question

Tell me about a time you adapted your teaching approach to support a pupil with a specific learning need.

Situation: In my previous EYFS class, a 4-year-old pupil with ASD was struggling to engage with whole-class carpet sessions, becoming distressed and withdrawing from activities. Task: I needed to adapt my approach to make learning accessible without disrupting the rest of the class. Action: I introduced a visual timetable specifically for that pupil, created a quiet corner with sensory resources, and worked with the teaching assistant to deliver short, structured 1:1 activities running parallel to group sessions. I also liaised with the SENCO and the pupil's parents weekly. Result: Within six weeks, the pupil was participating in 70% of whole-class activities and their end-of-term assessment showed progress across 4 EYFS development areas.
2Question

Describe a situation where you had to build a difficult professional relationship with a parent or carer — how did you handle it?

Situation: A parent of a child in my Reception class was frustrated after receiving a mid-term progress report indicating their child was below expected levels in literacy. They felt the school was not doing enough. Task: I needed to rebuild trust and communicate the support already in place clearly and constructively. Action: I arranged a face-to-face meeting, brought the pupil's learning journal and assessment records, and walked the parent through the targeted phonics intervention the child was receiving three times a week. I also set up a home-school reading log so the parent could contribute. Result: By the end of term, the pupil had moved up one assessment band, and the parent became one of the most engaged members of our class reading volunteer group.
