1Question

Tell me about a time you had to manage challenging behaviour in the classroom

During my placement at a comprehensive school, I had a Year 9 English class with 3 particularly disruptive students who were affecting the learning of 25 others. I implemented a structured behaviour management system with clear expectations and positive reinforcement strategies. I spoke individually with the disruptive students to understand their challenges and created differentiated tasks that engaged their interests. Within 4 weeks, classroom disruptions decreased by 80% and the previously struggling students began participating positively, with one achieving their first merit in English that term.
2Question

Describe how you've supported a struggling student to achieve their potential

I worked with a Year 10 student who was predicted a grade 3 in GCSE English but had the potential for much more. I identified that their main barrier was confidence in creative writing. I provided weekly one-to-one sessions focusing on planning techniques and vocabulary building, plus arranged for them to mentor a Year 7 student in reading. This peer mentoring boosted their confidence significantly. By the mock exams, they had improved to a grade 6, and they ultimately achieved a grade 7 in their final GCSE, securing their place in A-Level English.
