Letter preview — tailored to Reed

Dear Hiring Manager,

Employment law tribunal work is where I have focused my paralegal career, and the role advertised through Reed — Employment Paralegal at your Ipswich firm — aligns directly with the experience I have built in drafting tribunal responses and managing document disclosure. The breadth of the caseload, from early conciliation through to preliminary hearings, is precisely the environment in which I want to continue developing.

My background in employment law paralegal work has equipped me with hands-on experience preparing tribunal bundles, collating witness statements, and corresponding with claimants' representatives and tribunals. I have supported fee earners in achieving commercially favourable settlements and am comfortable conducting legal research independently to a high standard.

1Question

Tell me about a time you managed multiple tribunal files simultaneously — how did you prioritise your workload?

Situation: During a particularly busy period at my previous firm, I was managing 14 active Employment Tribunal files at the same time, with three response deadlines falling within the same fortnight. Task: I needed to ensure every response was drafted accurately and submitted on time without compromising quality. Action: I created a priority matrix ranking each file by deadline and complexity, blocked focused drafting time each morning, and flagged two files to the supervising solicitor for additional input. I also prepared a shared tracker so the team had visibility of progress. Result: All three responses were filed on time, two cases proceeded to early conciliation and settled within six weeks, and the supervising solicitor adopted my tracking system for the wider team.
2Question

Describe a situation where you had to communicate complex legal information to a client with no legal background.

Situation: A small business owner client was facing an unfair dismissal claim and had no prior experience of Employment Tribunal proceedings. Task: I needed to explain the tribunal process, their disclosure obligations, and the likely timeline in a way that was clear and did not cause unnecessary alarm. Action: I prepared a one-page plain-English summary of the ET1 to ET3 process, outlined the document disclosure requirements with a simple checklist, and held a 30-minute call to walk through each stage. I followed up with a written summary of actions required from the client within 48 hours. Result: The client gathered all required documentation within one week, the bundle was completed ahead of schedule, and they later told the partner that the clear communication had significantly reduced their anxiety throughout the process.
