Application advice

5 AI-generated recommendations to maximise your chances.

1

⭐ Highlight your Employment Law exposure prominently in your Personal Statement, as the advert lists tribunal claims and early conciliation as core responsibilities.

2

📊 Quantify your tribunal experience: e.g. "Drafted responses to 30+ Employment Tribunal claims, achieving settlement in 80% of cases prior to hearing".

3

🎯 Explicitly reference ACAS early conciliation and document disclosure in your skills section — these are listed as distinct duties and are ATS-critical for this role.

4

🤝 Mention any experience corresponding with tribunals or claimants' representatives, as the advert specifically calls this out as a standalone responsibility.

5

🌐 If you have experience preparing tribunal bundles or attending case management hearings, dedicate a bullet point to each — the advert treats these as separate competencies, not one task.

1Question

Tell me about a time you managed multiple tribunal matters simultaneously — how did you prioritise your workload?

Situation: During a particularly busy period at my previous firm, I was simultaneously managing 8 active Employment Tribunal matters at different stages, with 3 response deadlines falling within the same fortnight. Task: I needed to ensure no deadline was missed while maintaining quality across all files. Action: I created a weekly priority matrix ranking each matter by deadline urgency and complexity, blocked two focused drafting sessions per day, and flagged two matters to the supervising solicitor for resource support. I also batched client correspondence to free up concentrated drafting time. Result: All 3 responses were filed on time, one matter settled at early conciliation within a week of the response being submitted, and the supervising solicitor adopted my priority matrix approach across the wider team.
2Question

Give an example of when you identified a way to achieve a commercially favourable settlement for a client. What was your approach?

Situation: A client faced an unfair dismissal claim with a potential tribunal award estimated at £18,000, plus significant legal costs if the matter proceeded to a full hearing. Task: My role was to review the claim, assess the merits, and assist in preparing a settlement strategy. Action: I conducted detailed legal research on comparable tribunal decisions, identified a procedural weakness in the claimant's case, and drafted a without-prejudice settlement proposal at £6,500. I also prepared a clear risk assessment document for the client outlining the cost-benefit analysis of settling versus proceeding. Result: The claimant accepted the £6,500 offer at ACAS conciliation, saving the client an estimated £11,500 in combined award exposure and avoided legal costs.
