1Question

Tell me about a time you had to manage competing priorities in order processing

During peak season at my previous FMCG role, I faced a situation where 3 major retailers submitted urgent orders totalling 850 units while our regular daily processing queue had 120 pending orders. I quickly assessed stock levels and delivery schedules, prioritising the time-sensitive retail orders whilst communicating realistic timelines to other customers. I coordinated with our third party logistics provider to arrange additional transport capacity and worked overtime to process all orders within 48 hours. This resulted in maintaining our 99% on-time delivery rate and securing repeat business worth £15,000 from the major retailers.
2Question

Describe a situation where you improved logistics efficiency

I noticed our Mediterranean food distribution was experiencing 12% delivery delays due to poor coordination between our warehouse and transport providers. I implemented a new cross-referencing system that matched inventory levels with transport schedules in real-time. I also established daily communication protocols with our 3 main logistics partners and created automated EDI alerts for stock shortages. Within 6 weeks, delivery delays dropped to 4% and customer complaints reduced by 65%. The improved efficiency saved the company approximately £8,400 per month in penalty charges and rush delivery costs.
