A fantastic opportunity has arisen with a leading firm of Chartered Accountants in Edinburgh, and Crowe Watson Recruitment — a specialist recruiter trusted by some of the UK’s most respected accountancy practices — has been exclusively appointed to lead the search. This is a genuinely exciting role for a driven Corporate Tax professional looking to take the next step in their career. The firm offers flexible working, a competitive company pension, and much more, making this an exceptional platform from which to grow both professionally and personally.

This well-regarded Edinburgh firm has built a strong reputation for delivering high-quality corporate tax advice to a varied and stimulating client portfolio, spanning owner-managed businesses, entrepreneurial companies, and larger corporates. The environment is collegiate and forward-thinking, with strong emphasis placed on technical development and progression.

The successful candidate will be CTA and/or ACA/ACCA qualified, or part-qualified and working towards their final stages, with solid corporate tax experience gained within a UK accountancy practice. You will be comfortable managing your own portfolio, mentoring junior members of the team, and engaging confidently with clients at all levels. If you are looking for a role where your contribution will be recognised and your ambitions supported, this could be the ideal next step.

You might not meet all the criteria, but if you are passionate about developing yourself and your career, we’d love to hear from you.

1Question

Tell me about a time when you had to mentor a junior team member through a challenging tax issue

When a junior colleague struggled with a complex corporation tax computation for a manufacturing client with £12M turnover, I implemented a structured mentoring approach. I broke down the computation into manageable sections, scheduled daily 30-minute review sessions, and provided practical examples from similar clients. I also created a checklist template to help them systematically work through future computations. As a result, they successfully completed the computation within the deadline, and their confidence improved significantly. The client was impressed with the accuracy, and my colleague now handles similar complex cases independently, reducing my review time by 40%.
2Question

Describe a situation where you built a strong relationship with a difficult client

I inherited a manufacturing client who was frustrated with previous service delays and poor communication. They had threatened to switch firms after missing two filing deadlines. I immediately scheduled a face-to-face meeting to understand their concerns and established weekly progress calls. I also created a client portal where they could track their tax return status in real-time. Within 3 months, I had delivered their corporation tax return 2 weeks early and identified £15k in R&D tax credits they had missed. The client renewed their contract for 3 years and referred 2 additional businesses, generating £28k in new fees.
