Application advice

5 AI-generated recommendations to maximise your chances.

1

⭐ Place your CPC and Digi-Tacho card details prominently in your CV header or a 'Licences & Certifications' section, as the advert lists these as hard requirements.

2

🚛 Explicitly mention your Livestock Licence (cattle, pigs, sheep, goats, deer) in your skills section — this is a specific requirement that many Class 1 CVs omit and will make yours stand out.

3

📊 Quantify your driving experience: e.g. 'Completed 3–7 multi-drop deliveries daily across East Anglia over 3 years with zero road incidents'.

4

🎯 Highlight your flexibility and availability management — the advert stresses giving weekly availability, so note any experience working varied shift patterns or 0500 AM starts.

5

🤝 Include a brief line about customer-facing delivery experience, as the advert specifically calls out 'good level of English communication with customers and client'.

STAR answer examples

Model answers using the Situation-Task-Action-Result framework. Adapt to your own experience.

1Question

Tell me about a time you had to manage a tight delivery deadline under pressure — what did you do?

Situation: During a busy pre-Christmas period at my previous haulage employer, I was assigned 7 drops across Norfolk and Suffolk with a 3-hour tighter window than usual due to a late loading delay at the depot. Task: I needed to complete all deliveries on time without breaching my drivers' hours. Action: I quickly re-sequenced my route using the sat-nav to cut 22 miles of backtracking, contacted two customers to agree a 20-minute revised slot, and took my mandatory break at the furthest point to save dead time. Result: I completed all 7 drops within the revised window, received positive feedback from the depot manager, and logged zero hours violations on the tachograph.
2Question

Tell me about a time you identified a safety concern with your vehicle or load and what action you took.

Situation: On a morning walkaround check at 05:15, I noticed the nearside rear tyre on my artic trailer had a visible bulge — the vehicle had passed its last inspection 4 days prior. Task: I had a full livestock run scheduled to depart within 30 minutes. Action: I immediately reported the defect on the vehicle defect form, informed the transport manager, and refused to move the vehicle until a replacement trailer was sourced. I helped the team transfer the livestock to a second trailer within 45 minutes. Result: The defective tyre was confirmed as dangerous by the fitter. The run departed 50 minutes late but with zero safety compromise, and my actions were noted in the depot's monthly safety review.
