1Question

Tell me about a time you successfully improved behaviour outcomes in a challenging school environment

At my previous school, we faced rising exclusion rates with 28 fixed-term exclusions in one term. I analysed the data and identified that 65% involved pupils with undiagnosed SEMH needs. I implemented a three-tier intervention system: early identification through staff training, targeted pastoral support for 15 at-risk pupils, and alternative provision partnerships. I coached 8 key staff members on de-escalation techniques and established daily check-ins for vulnerable pupils. Within two terms, exclusions dropped to 12, and our pupil voice surveys showed 89% felt better supported. The system became a model adopted by three other schools in our trust.
2Question

Give an example of how you've used data to drive whole-school improvement

When reviewing our SEND outcomes, data showed pupils with EHCPs were achieving 1.2 grades below their predicted levels. I conducted a deep-dive analysis across 45 EHCP pupils and found inconsistent provision implementation. I created a tracking system monitoring weekly progress against EHCP targets and established monthly review meetings with 12 subject leaders. I provided coaching sessions on differentiation strategies and introduced peer observations focused on inclusive practice. After 18 months, the achievement gap closed to 0.3 grades, and our Ofsted inspection highlighted our SEND provision as outstanding. This systematic approach was rolled out across our multi-academy trust.
