1Question

Tell me about a time you led change in SEND provision

At my previous school, I identified that our EHCP review process was causing 40% of reviews to run over statutory timescales. I restructured the system by creating a digital tracking dashboard and training 8 teaching assistants in review preparation. I also established monthly multi-agency meetings with external professionals. Within 6 months, we achieved 98% compliance with statutory timescales and received positive feedback from the local authority. The improved process also reduced administrative burden on teachers by 3 hours per week, allowing more focus on direct student support.
2Question

How have you influenced teaching staff to improve inclusive practices?

I noticed that differentiation quality varied significantly across departments, with some SEND students not accessing the curriculum effectively. I developed a peer observation programme pairing experienced inclusive practitioners with those needing support. I also created subject-specific SEND guidance sheets and ran monthly 'Inclusion Cafes' where staff shared successful strategies. Over 12 months, lesson observations showed 85% of teachers demonstrating good inclusive practice compared to 52% previously. Student voice surveys indicated 78% of SEND students felt better supported in lessons.
