3

🎯 Highlight any CPC qualification or in-progress training explicitly, as Tesco/Booker are offering funded CPC hours — showing existing progress signals commitment.

STAR answer examples

1Question

Tell me about a time you had to manage a difficult or unhappy customer during a delivery — what did you do?

Situation: While working as a multi-drop driver for a wholesale food supplier in Chelmsford, I arrived at a busy café to find the owner frustrated because a previous delivery had included two damaged cases of stock. Task: I needed to resolve the complaint on the spot while keeping the rest of my 18-drop run on schedule. Action: I listened calmly, acknowledged the issue without being defensive, photographed the damaged goods, completed a returns note, and called the depot to arrange a replacement delivery for the following morning. I also offered to carry the undamaged stock directly to their storage room. Result: The café owner thanked me personally, and I completed the remaining 16 drops within my scheduled window. The depot received no formal complaint.
2Question

Describe a situation where you were running behind schedule on a delivery run. How did you handle it?

Situation: During a busy Monday morning run delivering chilled goods across five sites in Essex, a 40-minute road closure added significant delay after my third drop. Task: I had two time-sensitive deliveries remaining for customers who had staff waiting to receive stock. Action: I immediately contacted the depot dispatcher to flag the delay, then called ahead to both customers to give them a revised ETA and reassure them the delivery was on its way. I adjusted my route using a diversion I knew from experience to recover around 15 minutes. Result: I arrived at the fourth site only 12 minutes late and the fifth on revised schedule. Both customers confirmed they were satisfied, and the incident was logged as resolved with no service failure recorded.
