1Question

Tell me about a time you had to meet a tight deadline in a warehouse or logistics role — how did you manage it?

Situation: During peak season at a regional distribution centre, our team needed to load 18 delivery vans by 6am to meet the morning route schedule — two colleagues called in sick, leaving four of us to cover the full workload. Task: I needed to ensure all vehicles were loaded accurately and on time without compromising product safety. Action: I reorganised the pick sequence to prioritise the heaviest appliances first, coordinated with the remaining team to split vehicle bays evenly, and flagged one damaged unit immediately rather than loading it. Result: All 18 vehicles departed by 5:55am, zero loading errors were recorded, and the supervisor cited the shift as a model for short-staffed peak operations.
2Question

Describe a situation where you identified a safety risk at work and what action you took.

Situation: Midway through a nightshift at a logistics warehouse, I noticed a pallet of washing machines had been stacked unevenly near a high-traffic forklift aisle, creating a tipping risk. Task: As the operative nearest the hazard, it was my responsibility to act before the forklift completed its next pass. Action: I halted movement in that section, placed safety cones around the pallet, and immediately reported the issue to the shift supervisor. I then assisted in restacking the units correctly using the two-person technique outlined in our manual handling training. Result: No incident occurred, the area was cleared within 8 minutes, and the near-miss was logged in the site's H&S register, prompting a refresher briefing for the whole team the following week.
