1Question

Tell me about a time you had to resolve an urgent operational disruption during peak collection hours

During a particularly busy Monday morning, our main collection vehicle broke down with 12 scheduled charity shop collections remaining. I immediately contacted our backup driver and reassigned routes across 3 vehicles to cover the disrupted collections. I personally coordinated with each charity partner to confirm revised collection times and deployed our spare vehicle from our depot 15 miles away. By implementing this contingency plan within 45 minutes, we completed all collections by 4pm and maintained our 98% on-time delivery record for that month.
2Question

Describe a situation where you improved transport efficiency or reduced costs

I noticed our fuel costs were 18% above budget due to inefficient routing across our 22-vehicle fleet. I analysed 6 months of collection data and identified overlapping routes in South London. By restructuring our collection zones and implementing route planning software, I reduced daily mileage by 180 miles across the fleet. This change delivered £8,400 in annual fuel savings and improved driver satisfaction by reducing their daily hours from 9.5 to 8.2 hours on average.
