1Question

Tell me about a time when you had to solve a problem while on the road with tight deadlines

During a delivery run to Manchester, my trailer developed a hydraulic leak 2 hours before the customer's deadline. I immediately contacted dispatch and located the nearest approved repair facility 15 minutes away. While waiting for repairs, I coordinated with the customer to arrange a 90-minute delivery window extension. I also identified an alternative route that would save 20 minutes once repairs were complete. The repairs took 45 minutes, and using the shorter route, I delivered the goods 15 minutes ahead of the revised deadline. This experience taught me the importance of quick thinking, clear communication, and having backup plans when facing unexpected challenges on the road.
2Question

How do you prioritise safety when facing challenging driving conditions?

Last winter, I encountered heavy snow and ice while transporting goods from Birmingham to Leeds. I immediately reduced my speed to 40mph on the motorway and increased following distances to 6 seconds instead of the usual 3. I checked weather updates every 30 minutes and contacted dispatch to inform them of potential delays. When visibility dropped below 50 metres, I pulled into the next service station and waited 45 minutes for conditions to improve. Although this added time to my journey, I delivered the cargo safely without incident. I believe that no delivery deadline is worth compromising safety, and proper planning always accounts for weather-related delays.
