1Question

Tell me about a time you had to adapt quickly to a new classroom environment

When I arrived at Riverside Primary for a Year 2 supply role, I discovered the regular teacher had been absent for three days and the class of 26 pupils were unsettled. I quickly reviewed the classroom displays and spoke with the teaching assistant to understand the established routines. I implemented the school's behaviour system immediately, using visual cues and positive reinforcement. By lunchtime, I had established clear expectations and the afternoon ran smoothly. The head teacher commented that the pupils seemed more settled than they had been all week, and I was invited back for the remainder of the week.
2Question

Describe a situation where you built rapport with pupils in a short timeframe

During a last-minute Year 4 placement at Meadow Primary, I walked into a classroom of 28 pupils who were clearly testing boundaries with their new supply teacher. I started the morning by learning everyone's names using a fun memory game, then shared an interesting fact about myself and asked them to do the same. I noticed several pupils were passionate about football, so I incorporated football-themed maths problems into the lesson. By break time, the pupils were engaged and cooperative. The class teacher later told me it was the most positive feedback she'd received about supply cover, and I was booked for regular work at the school.
