1Question

Describe a time when you had to prioritise multiple urgent permit applications with tight deadlines

During a major fibre rollout project, I received 15 urgent permit applications on a Friday afternoon, all needed for Monday morning starts across different Local Authority areas. I immediately assessed each application's complexity and Local Authority processing times. I prioritised the 6 permits for authorities with same-day processing, submitted those first, then tackled the 9 standard permits by urgency of site access. I contacted each Local Authority directly to expedite processing and worked until 7pm to ensure all documentation was complete. By Monday morning, 14 of 15 permits were approved, with the final one cleared by Tuesday, allowing the project to proceed with minimal delay.
2Question

Tell me about a situation where you identified a compliance issue and how you resolved it

While reviewing permit documentation for a telecoms project, I noticed our contractor was planning excavation work within 2 metres of a gas main without proper consultation documentation. This violated NRSWA safety requirements and could have resulted in £5000 fines plus project shutdown. I immediately contacted the site supervisor to halt work, then coordinated with the gas utility company to arrange proper consultation and Safe-Dig clearance. I also implemented a new checklist system for all future permits to catch similar issues early. The 3-day delay prevented potential safety incidents and regulatory penalties, and our new process reduced compliance issues by 85% over the following 6 months.
