Application advice

5 AI-generated recommendations to maximise your chances.

1

⭐ Highlight your Systems Integration Testing experience prominently in your Personal Statement, as the advert lists it as a core requirement and references integrating 3rd party systems specifically.

2

📊 Quantify your test coverage: e.g. 'Designed 350+ test cases covering 12 integrated 3rd party components, reducing post-release defects by 40%'.

3

🎯 Name the specific tools you have used (Katalon Studio, Selenium, SoapUI, JUnit) in a dedicated Skills section — the advert lists these verbatim and ATS systems will scan for exact matches.

4

🌐 Reference any experience in regulated or security-cleared environments (e.g. defence, government, critical national infrastructure) as the programme supports National Security missions — this is a strong differentiator.

5

🤝 Demonstrate Agile/Scrum participation explicitly: mention daily scrums, sprint planning, and Jira backlog management to align with the scrum team contribution described in the advert.

Dear Hiring Manager,

Leidos' flagship National Security programme represents precisely the kind of complex, high-stakes integration challenge I have built my career around — which is why I am applying for the Senior Systems Integration & Test Engineer position in Whiteley. With hands-on experience designing risk-based test approaches and developing automation frameworks using Selenium and Katalon Studio, I am confident I can deliver robust test assurance across your change pipeline from day one.

My background in systems integration testing spans regulated environments where I have created comprehensive test cases from requirements and design documents, managed defect tracking in Jira, and contributed actively to scrum ceremonies including daily stand-ups and sprint reviews. I have integrated 3rd party components into large-scale systems and applied both manual and automated techniques to validate functional and non-functional requirements, including performance benchmarking of integrated services.

STAR answer examples

Model answers using the Situation-Task-Action-Result framework. Adapt to your own experience.

1Question

Tell me about a time you identified a significant gap or inefficiency in an existing test process — what did you do and what was the outcome?

Situation: On a government infrastructure project, I noticed our regression suite was entirely manual, taking 4 days per sprint and causing consistent release delays. Task: As the most experienced tester on the 5-person team, I took ownership of proposing and implementing an automation strategy. Action: I evaluated three frameworks and selected Selenium with JUnit, scripted the 80 highest-risk regression cases over 3 sprints, and integrated the suite into our Jenkins CI pipeline. I also documented the framework so two junior engineers could extend it independently. Result: Regression execution dropped from 4 days to 6 hours per sprint, release delays caused by testing fell to zero over the following quarter, and test coverage increased by 30%.
2Question

Describe a situation where you had to communicate complex technical test findings to a non-technical stakeholder. How did you approach it?

Situation: During UAT for a large data migration programme, I identified a critical data integrity defect affecting 15% of customer records. The programme director had no technical background but needed to make a go/no-go decision within 24 hours. Task: I had to translate a complex database-level fault into a business risk assessment. Action: I created a one-page impact summary showing the number of affected records, the downstream business processes at risk, and three remediation options with estimated timescales ranging from 2 days to 2 weeks. I presented this in a 20-minute call, avoiding technical jargon and focusing on business outcomes. Result: The director chose the 5-day partial fix option, the release was delayed by one sprint, and zero data integrity issues reached production.
