Senior Systems Engineer
Location: Farnborough or Whiteley, with flexibility to work from home dependent on business demands)
Salary: £61,500 - £78,800
The Role:
As a Senior Systems Engineer on a critical national infrastructure programme you will have a full understanding of the principles of systems engineering and prior experience in a similar role accepting and integrating deliveries from suppliers.
Using your experience in Systems Engineering, you will be responsible for working with customers and suppliers to execute Systems Engineering activities across the full lifecycle, including area with focus on Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE).
We are seeking an experienced and skilled Systems Engineer with multi-domain expertise, an understanding of business strategy, and experience with enterprise architecture frameworks, including DoDAF, MODAF, and TOGAF. In this role, you will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining complex systems that align with our business objectives while adhering to industry-standard architecture frameworks. The ideal candidate will understand both technical and strategic aspects, ensuring that system solutions meet technical requirements and support and drive business goals within structured architecture frameworks
Key Responsibilities:
- Working with operational stakeholders, technology suppliers and architects to refine system and sub-system requirements and acceptance criteria
- Modelling of functional and non-functional requirements and scenarios using MBSE and architectural framework approaches
- Modelling operational, business and system designs & behaviours within architectural views
- Define and develop requirements, turn them into a feasible solution by proposing an architecture, system and component definition
- Develop component and system specifications/descriptions as well as compliance criteria for the system, items, components, hardware and software
- Develop functions, systems, items and components to industry security and safety standards, and others as appropriate
- Develop and manage requirements at all levels from system, item, components, down to hardware and software level
- Define validation plans and ensure compliance through analysis, simulation and/or test (e.g. DO160) as appropriate
- Interface Control Documents (ICDs) / Application Programming Interfaces (APIs)
- Allocation of requirements to lower-level components, conducting technical derivation analysis as required
- Managing compliance assessments at system and lower levels
- Maintaining the high-level design and overseeing development of lower-level designs
- Producing detailed engineering artefacts such as:
- High-Level and Low-Level Designs
- Compliance Reports
- Preparing for and delivering milestone technical reviews and the associated work product deliverables
- Technically engage with the supply chain
- Work with the systems architects, mechanical systems engineers and system simulation engineers to ensure that the system requirements are achieved
- Anticipate and manage transversal technical and business issues, arbitrate between solutions considering all aspects: sustainability, reusability, optimisation, opportunity, schedule, quality, cost, risks, safety and performance
- Generate technical reports and presentations, with the ability to present information in a clear and organized manner
- Develop specification documents and procedures for new products before launched into manufacturing.
- Ensure specification and ensure the production, compliance and test of the components, items and systems.
- Develop validation test methods and protocols. Use Aerospace best practices.
- Participate in in-depth analysis of test data
- Ensure configuration management is in place for the systems and all its components from requirement through to operation
- Provide general technical feedback on the design and development of mechanical and electrical sub-systems
- Facilitate technical review sessions
- Deliver project health status updates
- Engage with clients, suppliers, and regulatory bodies to formulate engineering solutions
- Recognize technical risks and devise mitigation strategies
- Managing the technical backlog and the content of associated releases
What does Leidos need from me?
- Extensive experience in the defence, security or other safety and security critical information systems sectors
- Strong experience with systems modelling and in associated MBSE tools (e.g. NoMagic Cameo), Architectural Frameworks (e.g. TOGAF) and Languages (e.g. SysML)
- Strong knowledge of requirements and user scenario development in both text based and model based approaches
- Success in working within mission-critical systems integration programmes
- Ability to work with several stakeholders and suppliers, working across organisational boundaries as appropriate
- Experience of developing system behavioural diagrams, modelling interfaces and developing models to encapsulate functional & non-functional requirements and designs
- Demonstrable successes within the System Engineering environment
- Excellent customer facing skills, including being able to ingest large volumes of requirements and information developing clear understanding of customer hot buttons and needs
- Understanding designing / delivering systems in a public cloud environment
