1Question

Describe a time when you had to quickly adapt to a new school environment

I was called to cover a Year 10 Mathematics class at 7:30am with just lesson plans and no prior school knowledge. I arrived 30 minutes early to familiarise myself with the classroom layout and resources. I introduced myself confidently to the 28 students, established clear expectations, and used the school's existing behaviour management system. I adapted the planned algebra lesson to include more interactive elements to engage the students. The lesson ran smoothly with 100% student participation, and the head of department commended my professional approach. This experience taught me the importance of preparation and confidence when entering unfamiliar environments.
2Question

Tell me about a challenging classroom situation and how you managed it

During a Year 9 English lesson, three students became disruptive, talking loudly and refusing to engage with the Shakespeare text. I calmly approached their table, acknowledged their concerns about the material being difficult, and offered alternative ways to engage with the content. I paired them with supportive peers and provided simplified character summaries. I also implemented the school's positive reinforcement system, praising their efforts when they participated. By the lesson's end, all three students had contributed to the class discussion about Macbeth. The regular teacher later noted improved behaviour from these students in subsequent lessons, showing the lasting impact of positive intervention.
