1Question

Tell me about a time you built rapport with a difficult customer

A customer visited our store frustrated after poor service elsewhere and was initially quite defensive. I acknowledged their previous experience and asked open questions about what they were looking for rather than pushing products. I discovered they had back problems and spent 20 minutes discussing their sleep challenges, demonstrating different mattress firmness levels. By focusing entirely on their needs rather than making a sale, I built trust. They returned the following week with their partner, purchased a £1,400 mattress set, and specifically requested to work with me again. This taught me that patience and genuine interest in solving customer problems creates lasting relationships and better sales results.
2Question

Describe a situation where you exceeded sales targets or KPIs

During a particularly challenging month when our team was 18% behind target, I analysed which products weren't selling and noticed customers often left without purchasing accessories. I started a consultative approach, asking about their bedroom setup and sleep routine, which naturally led to pillow and bedding recommendations. I created simple comparison sheets showing how accessories enhanced their main purchase. Over 3 weeks, I increased my accessory attachment rate from 22% to 67%, generating an additional £3,200 in sales. This helped our team finish the month at 104% of target, and the approach was adopted store-wide the following quarter.
