Model answers using the Situation-Task-Action-Result framework. Adapt to your own experience.

1Question

Tell me about a time you managed challenging behaviour in the classroom

During a Year 9 RE lesson on world religions, two students became disruptive when discussing different faith practices. I immediately implemented de-escalation techniques, separating the students and redirecting the class to a structured group activity exploring religious festivals. I then spoke privately with both students, helping them understand the importance of respect in religious discussions. As a result, both students apologised and became active participants in subsequent lessons, with the class achieving 98% engagement for the remainder of the term.
2Question

Describe how you've engaged reluctant students in RE lessons

I had a Year 8 class where 6 students showed little interest in RE topics. I redesigned my approach by incorporating multimedia presentations, interactive quizzes, and real-world connections to current events. For example, when teaching about pilgrimage, I used virtual reality headsets to 'visit' religious sites and connected the topic to modern travel experiences. This resulted in 100% class participation and improved test scores by 25% over the following half-term, with previously reluctant students volunteering answers regularly.
