1Question

Tell me about a time you had to manage a critical supplier disruption

When our primary packaging supplier faced a 3-week production shutdown due to equipment failure, I immediately activated our contingency plan. I contacted 4 alternative suppliers from our pre-qualified list and negotiated emergency supply agreements. Within 48 hours, I secured temporary supply from 2 sources at 8% premium cost, maintaining our production schedule. I also worked with our quality team to fast-track approval of substitute materials. The result was zero production downtime and we maintained all customer deliveries whilst saving £85,000 compared to air freight alternatives.
2Question

Describe a situation where you delivered significant cost savings without compromising quality

I identified that our spice supplier was charging 15% above market rate for key ingredients. Rather than simply switching suppliers, I conducted a comprehensive market analysis and approached 6 potential suppliers. I organised quality trials with our technical team for the top 3 candidates, ensuring they met our flavour profiles and food safety standards. Through competitive bidding, I negotiated a 3-year contract with a new supplier, delivering £240,000 annual savings whilst actually improving consistency scores by 12% and reducing delivery times from 5 to 3 days.
