1Question

Describe a time when you had to manage multiple client deadlines simultaneously

During the January 2024 self-assessment deadline, I had 45 personal tax returns to complete within 3 weeks while 2 team members were off sick. I created a priority matrix based on complexity and client importance, focusing on 12 HNWI clients first. I worked extended hours and delegated simpler returns to available junior staff with clear review checkpoints. I also proactively communicated with clients about realistic timescales. As a result, we achieved 100% on-time filing with no penalties, and client satisfaction scores remained at 96% despite the challenging circumstances.
2Question

Tell me about a challenging tax planning case you worked on

A company director client was facing a £28,000 tax liability due to dividend payments exceeding the basic rate band. After reviewing their circumstances, I identified they had unused pension annual allowance from previous years. I recommended making a £35,000 pension contribution using carry-forward rules, which reduced their tax liability by £14,000 while boosting their retirement savings. I prepared detailed calculations showing the long-term benefits and liaised with their pension provider to ensure the contribution was processed before the deadline. The client saved significant tax while improving their financial security.
