1Question

Tell me about a time you had to calm an anxious patient before a mammography exam

During a busy screening session, I encountered a 52-year-old patient who was extremely anxious about her first mammography appointment. She was visibly shaking and expressed concerns about pain and the results. I took 5 extra minutes to explain the procedure step-by-step, showed her the equipment, and discussed positioning techniques to minimise discomfort. I also shared that 90% of screening results are normal, which helped ease her fears. The examination proceeded smoothly, and she thanked me afterwards, saying she felt much more comfortable than expected. This approach helped maintain our department's 95% patient satisfaction rate.
2Question

Describe a situation where you had to adapt your approach for a patient with mobility issues

I had a 68-year-old patient with severe arthritis in her shoulders who couldn't raise her arms for standard positioning. Rather than compromising image quality, I collaborated with the radiologist to modify our approach. I used additional cushioning and adjusted the compression paddle angle to accommodate her limited range of motion. I also took extra time to ensure proper breast positioning using gentle manual assistance. The examination took 12 minutes instead of the usual 8, but we achieved diagnostic quality images covering all necessary tissue. The patient expressed gratitude for the personalised care, and the radiologist confirmed adequate coverage for screening purposes.
