Model answers using the Situation-Task-Action-Result framework. Adapt to your own experience.

1Question

Tell me about a time you had to adapt a lesson quickly when it wasn't working

During a Year 1 maths lesson on number bonds to 10, I noticed 18 children were struggling with the abstract concept. I quickly switched from worksheets to physical manipulatives, using counting bears and tens frames. I reorganised the class into pairs for peer support and introduced a simple song to reinforce the concept. Within 20 minutes, 85% of pupils were successfully demonstrating number bonds, and the lesson energy completely transformed from confusion to engagement.
2Question

Describe a challenging behaviour management situation and how you resolved it

I had a Year 2 pupil who was disrupting lessons by calling out and leaving his seat frequently, affecting 26 other children's learning. I implemented a personalised behaviour chart with 15-minute success intervals, offered movement breaks every 30 minutes, and established a quiet signal system. I also spoke with parents to ensure consistency at home. After 3 weeks, his disruptive behaviours reduced by 80%, and he became a positive role model for other pupils.
