1Question

Describe a time you exceeded a sales target or KPI; what strategies did you use to achieve this?

In my previous retail role, I was tasked with achieving £180,000 in quarterly sales across 40 customers. I identified that 60% of my customer base were repeat clients who hadn't purchased in over 6 months. I proactively contacted 24 of these lapsed customers with tailored product recommendations based on their previous purchases, and conducted 8 follow-up home visits to understand their evolving needs. This strategy resulted in 16 new projects, generating £210,000 in revenue and achieving 117% of target. The experience taught me that relationship maintenance and personalised outreach are key to exceeding targets consistently.
2Question

Tell us about a customer relationship you built from scratch; how did you establish trust and maintain it over time?

I was assigned a new trade customer, a local builder, who had previously worked with a competitor. During our first meeting, I listened carefully to understand his specific project requirements and pain points — he mentioned frustration with slow design turnarounds. I committed to a 5-day design turnaround (versus the industry standard of 10 days) and delivered a detailed CAD proposal ahead of schedule. Over the following 18 months, I managed 7 projects for this customer, consistently meeting deadlines and proactively suggesting cost-saving design alternatives. He became one of my top 5 customers by revenue, and referred 3 additional builders to me. Trust was built through reliability, responsiveness, and genuine interest in his business success.
