1Question

Tell me about a time you exceeded sales targets. What was your approach?

In my previous role, I was tasked with achieving £150,000 in quarterly sales but the team was tracking 15% behind target with 6 weeks remaining. I analysed our customer pipeline and identified 12 warm prospects who had stalled at the quotation stage. I scheduled face-to-face meetings with each prospect, focusing on understanding their specific concerns and tailoring solutions accordingly. I also implemented a weekly follow-up system and offered flexible payment terms where appropriate. This systematic approach resulted in converting 8 of the 12 prospects, generating £165,000 in sales and exceeding target by 10%. The key was combining personal relationship building with structured follow-up processes.
2Question

Describe a situation where you had to build trust with a difficult customer

I encountered a trade customer who had received poor service from our company previously, resulting in a delayed kitchen installation that cost them £3,200 in client compensation. They were understandably frustrated and threatened to switch suppliers. I arranged an immediate site visit to assess their current project requirements and listened carefully to their concerns without being defensive. I then created a detailed project timeline with weekly progress updates and provided my direct contact details for any issues. I also negotiated a 5% discount on their next three orders as goodwill. Over 4 months, this customer became one of our top 5 accounts, placing orders worth £28,000. The breakthrough came from taking ownership of past issues and demonstrating consistent, reliable service.
