1Question

Tell me about a time when you exceeded a sales target. What strategies did you use?

Last year, I was tasked with achieving £45,000 in quarterly sales but managed to reach £54,000, exceeding the target by 20%. I started by analysing my customer database and identified 12 dormant accounts that hadn't purchased in 6 months. I scheduled face-to-face meetings with each, focusing on understanding their current challenges rather than pushing products. I discovered that 8 of these customers had cash flow concerns, so I worked with our finance team to offer flexible payment terms. This approach reactivated 10 accounts, generating £18,000 in additional revenue. The remaining £9,000 came from upselling existing customers by demonstrating how premium products could improve their profit margins. This systematic approach of relationship building combined with tailored solutions became my standard methodology.
2Question

Describe a situation where you had to build a relationship with a difficult customer

I inherited a challenging account - a local contractor who had complained about delayed deliveries and was threatening to switch suppliers. Rather than being defensive, I arranged an on-site meeting at his current project to understand his specific needs. I discovered he was working on tight deadlines with penalty clauses for late completion. I worked with our logistics team to guarantee morning deliveries for his projects and set up a direct communication line for urgent orders. Over 3 months, I visited his sites weekly, helping resolve installation queries and even connecting him with other trade professionals in our network. This hands-on approach transformed our relationship - he increased his monthly orders from £2,800 to £7,200 and referred 4 new customers to us. The key was showing genuine commitment to his business success rather than just making sales.
