1Question

Tell me about a time when you had to explain a complex technical issue to non-technical school staff

A primary school's email system went down during parent-teacher conference week, affecting 25 teachers. The server had corrupted Exchange database files, but I needed to explain this to frustrated staff without technical jargon. I used the analogy of a filing cabinet with damaged folders, explaining that some 'files' needed to be repaired before the 'cabinet' could work properly. I provided regular 30-minute updates, set up temporary webmail access for urgent communications, and completed the repair within 4 hours. The headteacher praised my clear communication, and all staff felt informed throughout the process.
2Question

Describe a situation where you had to prioritise multiple urgent IT issues across different school sites

On a Monday morning, I received three urgent calls: a secondary school's internet was down affecting 800 students, a primary school had no printing for assessment week, and another school's server backup had failed overnight. I prioritised the internet outage first due to the highest user impact, dispatching a colleague to handle the printing issue simultaneously. I diagnosed a faulty router at the secondary school and implemented a temporary solution within 90 minutes. The backup issue was scheduled for after school hours. All three issues were resolved by end of day, with no learning disruption.
