Application advice

5 AI-generated recommendations to maximise your chances.

1

⭐ List your BWY, IYN, or Level 3 Pilates Mat qualification prominently in your CV header — the advert flags these as genre-specific requirements that will be screened at application stage.

3

🎯 Mention any CIMSPA membership or accredited CPD courses explicitly, as David Lloyd highlights CIMSPA-accredited training as a key benefit and cultural marker.

STAR answer examples

1Question

Tell me about a time you helped a member achieve a specific health or wellness goal through your classes.

Situation: A member in her late 50s joined my Wednesday Pilates Mat class with chronic lower-back pain and low confidence in group settings. Task: I wanted to support her progression without singling her out or disrupting the wider class. Action: I introduced a 10-minute post-class check-in, offered two modified movement sequences tailored to her mobility, and recommended she also attend my Thursday Breathwork session for stress management. I tracked her attendance and adjusted progressions every four weeks. Result: After three months she reported a significant reduction in back discomfort, attended 11 of 12 classes, and became a vocal advocate who referred two friends to the club.
2Question

Describe a situation where you had to manage a difficult or disengaged participant in a group class.

Situation: During a 20-person Yoga flow class, one participant repeatedly talked over my cues and disrupted the meditative atmosphere other members had come for. Task: I needed to address the behaviour without embarrassing the individual or losing the group's focus. Action: I calmly paused the sequence, acknowledged the energy in the room, and used a grounding breathing exercise to re-centre everyone — including the disruptive participant. After class I spoke to them privately, learned they were anxious about technique, and invited them to a smaller beginner session. Result: They moved to the beginner class, thrived there, and returned to the main class four weeks later fully engaged. No further disruptions occurred.
