1Question

Tell me about a time you had to influence a customer to try a new product or promotion

A key independent convenience store owner was resistant to stocking our new energy drink range, citing limited shelf space and uncertain demand. I researched local demographics showing 35% of customers were aged 18-34, the core target market. I proposed a 4-week trial with point-of-sale materials and offered to personally merchandise the display twice weekly. I demonstrated the profit margins compared to existing products and showed sales data from similar stores. The owner agreed to the trial, and after 3 weeks, the range was generating £240 weekly revenue. This became one of my top-performing accounts, with the owner requesting to expand the range further.
2Question

Describe a situation where you exceeded your sales targets. What approach did you take?

In Q3, I was 8% behind my £45k quarterly target with 6 weeks remaining. I analysed my customer database and identified 12 accounts with declining purchases over the previous quarter. I scheduled face-to-face meetings with each customer to understand their challenges. Three were experiencing supply issues with competitors, so I secured immediate stock availability. Four needed promotional support for upcoming events, so I arranged targeted campaigns. Two required payment term adjustments which I negotiated with head office. This focused approach generated £8,200 in additional sales, helping me finish the quarter at 104% of target.
