1Question

Tell me about a time you had to work closely with a colleague on an opposite shift

When I worked at a manufacturing plant, I had to coordinate with the night shift engineer on a critical conveyor system repair. The situation required a 3-day phased approach due to production constraints. I documented each day's progress in detail, including torque specifications and component locations, then met with my colleague for 15 minutes each handover. We established a shared digital log and photos of work areas. The result was seamless continuity - we completed the repair 2 days ahead of schedule with zero miscommunication, and production reported no delays during the transition periods.
2Question

Describe a situation where you identified a long-running problem and proposed a solution

At my previous role, I noticed a hydraulic pump was failing every 6 weeks, costing £800 per replacement plus 4 hours downtime each time. After investigating, I discovered the root cause was contaminated hydraulic fluid due to inadequate filtration. I proposed installing a secondary filtration system costing £1,200 and implementing weekly fluid analysis. I presented the business case showing 18-month payback period. Management approved the solution, and we achieved 8 months of continuous operation with 95% reduction in pump failures, saving approximately £6,400 annually.
