Application advice

5 AI-generated recommendations to maximise your chances.

1

⭐ Feature your full UK Manual Driving Licence prominently at the top of your CV under a 'Licences & Certifications' section, as it is listed as an essential requirement.

2

📊 Quantify your delivery experience: e.g. 'Completed 25+ multidrop deliveries daily across a 40-mile radius, maintaining a 99% on-time delivery rate'.

3

🚛 Highlight any experience with PDA or handheld scanning devices, as the advert specifically calls this out — even brief warehouse or courier exposure counts.

Dear Hiring Manager,

Plumb Centre's 3.5T Delivery Driver role in Aberystwyth is a strong match for my skills and experience. I hold a full UK Manual Driving Licence and have hands-on experience with multidrop delivery routes and PDA-based delivery confirmation, both of which are central to this position at Wolseley's Aberystwyth branch.

My background in delivery and logistics includes completing up to 20 multidrop drops daily, carrying out pre-use vehicle checks, and safely manual-handling heavy goods including trade-grade equipment. I have also supported warehouse teams with picking, packing, and stock checks during quieter periods, which mirrors the flexible, branch-wide contribution your advert describes.

STAR answer examples

Model answers using the Situation-Task-Action-Result framework. Adapt to your own experience.

1Question

Tell me about a time you had to manage a large number of deliveries under time pressure — how did you prioritise?

Situation: During a busy pre-Christmas period at my previous employer, a courier called in sick and I was asked to absorb an extra 12 drops on top of my usual 18-stop route. Task: I needed to complete all 30 deliveries within my standard 8-hour shift without missing any customer time windows. Action: I re-sequenced my route using the depot's mapping software to cluster drops by postcode, communicated revised ETAs to 4 trade account customers, and skipped my lunch break to bank extra time. Result: I completed 28 of 30 drops on time, with the remaining 2 rescheduled by 09:00 the following morning — receiving positive feedback from the branch manager.
2Question

Describe a situation where a customer was unhappy with a delivery. How did you handle it?

Situation: I arrived at a plumbing contractor's site with a radiator order and the customer pointed out that one unit had a dented panel — likely caused during loading. Task: I needed to resolve the issue on the spot without escalating the customer's frustration or delaying the rest of my route. Action: I apologised clearly, photographed the damage on my PDA, raised a returns note immediately, and called the branch to arrange a same-day replacement from stock. I also offered to leave the undamaged units so the contractor could begin installation. Result: The replacement arrived within 3 hours, the contractor completed the job on schedule, and he placed a follow-up order the next week.
