STAR answer examples

1Question

Tell me about a time you provided excellent customer service that made someone's day easier

A customer visited our store looking frustrated because they couldn't find a specific product for their elderly mother. I took time to understand exactly what they needed and discovered we had a similar item in our stockroom. I personally walked them through the product features and arranged next-day delivery to their mother's address. The customer was so grateful they returned the following week with their mother, who became a regular customer. This experience taught me that going the extra mile creates lasting customer relationships and drives repeat business.
2Question

Describe a situation where you had to work as part of a team to achieve a goal

During our busiest Christmas period, our 6-person team faced a challenge when two colleagues called in sick, leaving us understaffed for a £15,000 sales day target. I volunteered to cover additional responsibilities including stock replenishment and customer queries while supporting newer team members. We reorganised our floor coverage and I helped train a temporary staff member on our systems. Through clear communication and mutual support, we not only met our target but exceeded it by £2,800. This experience reinforced how effective teamwork can overcome significant challenges.
