Dear Hiring Manager,

Tesco's reputation for putting customers first is precisely what draws me to the Customer Delivery Driver role at Coatbridge Extra. STAR answer examples

Model answers using the Situation-Task-Action-Result framework. Adapt to your own experience.

1Question

Tell me about a time you delivered excellent customer service in a challenging situation.

Situation: During a busy Saturday shift at a local delivery company, I arrived at a customer's address to find that 4 items in their order had been substituted without prior notice. The customer was visibly frustrated. Task: I needed to resolve the situation quickly, maintain the delivery schedule, and leave the customer feeling positive. Action: I calmly walked the customer through each substitution, explained the reason for each change, and offered a refund on two items they did not want to keep. I also noted their preferences for future reference and flagged the feedback to my depot manager. Result: The customer thanked me personally and rated the delivery 5 stars. I completed the remaining 22 deliveries on time that shift.
2Question

Describe a time you had to adapt quickly to an unexpected change while working independently.

Situation: Midway through a 28-stop delivery route, my sat-nav failed and a road closure blocked my planned route through a residential area. Task: I had to reroute independently to avoid missing 6 afternoon time slots. Action: I pulled over safely, used my phone's maps app to identify an alternative route, and called the depot to flag the delay and adjust the two tightest time slots by 15 minutes. I then prioritised the furthest deliveries first to minimise knock-on delays. Result: I completed all 28 deliveries within the revised windows, with no customer complaints and positive feedback noted by my line manager at the end-of-shift debrief.
