1Question

Tell me about a time you managed a particularly high-pressure caseload and how you maintained quality under volume.

Situation: During a six-week period, our team lost a fee earner to illness, and I absorbed an additional 20 files on top of my existing 40-matter caseload. Task: I needed to maintain hearing readiness across all matters without compromising accuracy or client communication. Action: I restructured my daily workflow into triage blocks — urgent hearings first, then drafting, then correspondence — and used a shared tracker to flag matters approaching critical deadlines. I also briefed my supervisor weekly to escalate anything requiring counsel. Result: All 60 matters progressed on schedule, with zero adjournments attributable to preparation failures and positive feedback from the police client contact on responsiveness throughout.
2Question

Describe a situation where you had to conduct advocacy in court with limited preparation time. How did you handle it?

Situation: A colleague fell ill the evening before a contested DVPO hearing, and I was asked to cover with roughly 14 hours' notice. Task: I needed to get across a complex factual matrix and anticipate the respondent's likely arguments without the benefit of having drafted the application myself. Action: I spent two hours that evening reviewing the court bundle, annotating key evidence and drafting a concise speaking note structured around the legal threshold. I contacted the police officer in the case first thing to clarify two factual points. Result: The order was granted at the first hearing. The supervising partner noted the advocacy was clear and well-structured, and I was subsequently assigned two further contested DVPO hearings as a result.
