1Question

Tell me about a time when you had to work efficiently under pressure in a kitchen

During a busy Saturday lunch service at my previous café role, we had 85 orders come in within 30 minutes due to a coach party arrival. I prioritised the orders by cooking time, prepared ingredients in batches, and coordinated with the front-of-house team to manage customer expectations. I successfully delivered all meals within 45 minutes while maintaining our quality standards, resulting in positive customer feedback and no complaints about wait times.
2Question

Describe a situation where you had to work as part of a team to resolve a problem

Our main oven broke down during a busy weekend service with 40 orders pending. I immediately suggested redistributing the workload across our smaller equipment whilst my colleague contacted the repair service. I adapted recipes to work with the grill and hob, communicated menu limitations to the serving team, and helped reorganise the kitchen workflow. We maintained service for 6 hours until repairs were complete, with only a 15-minute delay to customers.
