STAR answer examples

1Question

Tell me about a time you had to resolve a significant contract dispute or delay

Situation: A £450k manufacturing contract was 3 weeks behind schedule due to supply chain delays affecting our key component delivery. Task: I needed to resolve the delay whilst maintaining client relationship and minimising cost impact. Action: I immediately convened a cross-functional meeting with production, procurement and logistics teams, negotiated expedited delivery with alternative suppliers, and implemented daily progress tracking. I also proactively communicated with the client, proposing a revised delivery schedule with partial shipments. Result: We recovered 2 weeks of the delay, delivered 85% of the order on the original timeline, and maintained the client relationship with a 94% satisfaction score.
2Question

Describe a situation where you improved contract management processes

Situation: Our contract variation process was taking an average of 8 days, causing delays and client frustration across 15 active manufacturing contracts. Task: I was asked to streamline the process whilst maintaining commercial and legal compliance. Action: I mapped the existing workflow, identified 3 bottlenecks in approvals, created standardised templates for common variations, and implemented a digital tracking system. I also trained 6 team members on the new process and established daily review meetings. Result: Variation processing time reduced to 3 days, client satisfaction increased by 18%, and we processed 40% more variations without additional resources.
