1Question

Tell me about a time when you had to communicate complex technical information to non-technical stakeholders

When our procurement team needed to understand why a critical sensor component was becoming obsolete, I had to explain the technical implications without overwhelming them with engineering details. I prepared a visual presentation showing how the component fitted into our product architecture and the potential impact on 3 major product lines worth £2.4M in annual revenue. I used simple analogies comparing component obsolescence to car parts going out of production, making it relatable. The result was immediate approval for a £15,000 last-time-buy order and agreement to redesign affected products using alternative components I had pre-qualified.
2Question

Describe a situation where you identified a component obsolescence risk and how you managed it

During a routine life cycle review, I discovered that a key microcontroller used in 8 product variants was entering end-of-life status with only 12 months notice. I immediately contacted our supplier to secure a 24-month inventory buffer while simultaneously identifying 3 pin-compatible alternatives. I created a risk matrix showing impact on each product line and worked with design teams to qualify the replacement components. This proactive approach prevented potential production delays worth £180,000 and ensured seamless transition to new components 6 months ahead of the obsolescence deadline.
