1Question

Tell me about a time you had to resolve a complex supply chain issue under pressure

When our main bearing supplier failed to deliver critical components for a £2.8M rail project, I immediately contacted 4 alternative suppliers within our approved vendor list. I negotiated emergency pricing with 2 suppliers, securing components at just 8% premium rather than the 25% initially quoted. I coordinated with our quality team for expedited inspection and worked with logistics to arrange direct delivery to site. The components arrived 3 days ahead of the revised schedule, preventing £15,000 in delay penalties and maintaining our client relationship.
2Question

Describe a situation where you had to manage multiple urgent procurement requests simultaneously

During a major maintenance shutdown, I received 12 urgent requisitions within 2 hours covering hydraulic components, electrical parts, and safety equipment totalling £45,000. I prioritised requests by criticality and lead time, contacted 8 suppliers simultaneously, and created a tracking spreadsheet with hourly updates. I secured emergency stock for 3 critical items, arranged next-day delivery for 6 standard components, and coordinated with stores to confirm receipt. All items arrived within 48 hours, enabling the shutdown to complete on schedule with zero production delays.
