STAR answer examples

Model answers using the Situation-Task-Action-Result framework. Adapt to your own experience.

1Question

Tell me about a time when you had to deal with a difficult customer during a delivery

During a delivery to a warehouse in Brighton, the receiving manager was frustrated because their previous delivery had been 2 hours late, causing production delays. I listened to their concerns and acknowledged the impact on their operations. I then explained our new tracking system and provided my direct contact number for future deliveries. I also coordinated with our dispatch team to prioritise their location for morning slots. As a result, we improved their delivery satisfaction from 60% to 95% over the following 3 months, and they became one of our most loyal customers.
2Question

Describe a situation where you had to manage your time effectively to meet tight deadlines

I had 6 deliveries scheduled across Sussex with a final drop in Hastings required by 4 PM for their production line. Traffic delays on the A27 put me 45 minutes behind schedule by midday. I immediately contacted each remaining customer to negotiate adjusted time slots, rerouted via country roads using my local knowledge, and consolidated two nearby deliveries to save 20 minutes. I completed all deliveries by 3:45 PM, ensuring the Hastings production line started on time and maintaining our 100% deadline achievement record for that month.
